My name is Maxim Safronov and I've been making custom knives for over twenty years. Custom knife making has been my family’s business in Russia for three decades. Since 2020 however I have been living and making custom knives in Scarborough Ontario Canada.
I mostly make custom hunting knives, but I also custom make all kinds of knives and other bladed items to customers requirements. My knives are all unique and of the highest quality. They are highly sought after by hunters, collectors and people looking for gifts or quality souvenirs.
I can make knives in any style and size and from any material desired and by your hand measurements. If you’re after a particular style of knife (national, collectable, fancy, gift. etc.), please contact me. I’ll be pleased to hand make a knife you’ll be proud to own. Restoration of existing or antique bladed items is also available.
Many of my blades are forged from high-alloy steels 440C and D2. Each Damascus blade is forged of four types of steel and contains from 400 to 600 layers. My blades are usually from 4 to 6 mm (1/5 inch) thick. (1 inch is 25.4 mm).
I use a wide range of natural materials for making handles and sheaths: mounted birch bark, birch burl, box tree, walnut tree, leather, elk horn, walrus tusk, bog oak (oak that has been submerged in a bog for centuries; this wood is black), and various other woods like blackwood (Dalbergia), ebony wood (Diospyrus), etc. All wooden parts are permeated with linseed or tung oil and bee wax to make them water-repellent and reduce the likelihood of rotting and cracking. The handles with butt-caps are assembled with a titanium rod inside.
Each leather sheath is hand made from four pieces of leather, which are used to form an inner and outer layer. The inner layer is glued together and reinforced with eight to ten stainless steel staples.
Blades and knife parts are available for knife-making enthusiasts.
Please feel free to ask me any questions about my knives.
Please consult your nation's laws concerning bladed items before purchasing or requesting production.
